Jewellery Care Guide

A little care helps your jewellery look its best for longer. These simple tips work for most pieces.

For all jewellery

• Put your jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray, body lotion and make-up. Take it off first.
• Remove it before swimming, showering, exercise, cleaning and sleeping. Water, sea water, chlorine and sweat can affect metals, plating and stones.
• Wipe each piece with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
• Store pieces separately in a dry place, in a soft pouch or in the gift box, so they do not scratch or tangle.

Sterling silver (925)

• Silver can darken over time when it meets air, moisture and some chemicals. This is normal.
• Store it in a sealed bag or pouch.
• Polish gently with a soft silver-polishing cloth. For a deeper clean, use mild soap and warm water, rinse well and dry fully with a soft cloth.

Plated jewellery (gold plated, rose gold plated and silver plated)

• Plating is a thin layer. It can wear over time, especially with friction, moisture and chemicals.
• Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use polishing cloths, abrasive cleaners or jewellery dips.
• Keep plated pieces dry.

Stainless steel

• Clean with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Rinse well and dry fully.
• Avoid abrasive pads and strong cleaning products. They can scratch the surface.

Copper and alloy

• Keep these pieces away from water, perfume and cleaning products.
• Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.

Stones and pearls

• Zircon, moissanite and other stones: wipe with a soft cloth, or use a soft brush with mild soapy water. Rinse well and dry. Avoid knocks and hard surfaces.
• Pearls and pearl-effect beads: wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry them. Do not soak them. Keep them away from perfume and hairspray.

Hair accessories and bridal headwear

• Handle gently and store flat in a box or pouch.
• Keep hairspray away from stones and pearls.
